Jennifer
has recently moved to New Zealand from London and is registered
in the UK as a dietitian. After completing a BSc in Psychology,
Jen went on to gain an MSc in Nutrition in 2005 and a post-graduate
diploma in dietetics with Merit, from the University of
London.
With seven months National Health Service experience in
four large teaching hospitals in London, she has had a broad
training base seeing a wide variety of patients and clients,
including adults needing advice for weight reduction, PCOS,
inflammatory bowel diseases, diabetes, heart, liver and
kidney disease and has also had experience in the area of
oncology.
Jen has also seen a number of patients with eating disorders,
depression and schizophrenia and is very aware that emotional
and psychological issues, as well as medications, can have
a substantial influence on the ability to follow a healthy
lifestyle.
Since arriving in Auckland Jen has extended her qualifications
by completing the Sports Nutrition course run by the Australian
Institute of Sport (AIS). She has been a qualified aerobics
and RPM instructor since 2002, teaching at a number of large
fitness clubs in and around London. She loves running and
is thinking about trying her first triathlon here in Auckland
in the near future.
Previously Jen worked for Waitamata District Health Board.
Based at North Shore Hospital, she was part of a multidisciplinary
team specializing in adolescent and adult patients with
Type 1 diabetes. She also saw a number of clients needing
healthy eating advice for Type 2 diabetes and cholesterol
lowering and delivered a number of presentations on these
subjects.
