Christel
is a NZ Registered Nutritionist and working in the industry
since 2001. She has a lot of experience working with clients
who require weight loss, weight gain, weight maintenance,
lowering elevated cholesterol levels, lowering elevated
blood pressure, gout, some bowel disorders and many other
nutrition related issues. She is passionate about sport
and currently working towards her accreditation for Sport
Nutritionist by Sport and Exercise Science New Zealand.
Currently, Christel is also lecturing Nutrition to the
students taking “Applied Sport Science” at the
School of Sports, Manukau Institute of Technology. And she
provides the nutrition lectures for the personal trainers
short courses in Fitness, Sport and Health at the Faculty
of Health and Environmental Sciences at Auckland University
of Technology. The rest of the time she is looking after
her two lovely boys Tim (7 years) and Max (4 years).
Her MSc research thesis was a feasibility study to investigate
the effect of a physical activity and nutrition education
programme for 10 – 14 year old New Zealand overweight
and obese children. The aims of this research project were
to develop and implement a physical activity and nutrition
programme for management of weight in children, to develop
an ongoing self motivated participation in physical activity,
and to encourage development of life long healthy eating
habits.
Previously Christel worked for the Clinical Trials Research
Unit (CTRU), Auckland University as a Research Fellow. Here
she was involved in the design of a randomised controlled
trial of “strategies to promote healthier food shopping”.
She is also a co-author of several peer reviewed papers,
e.g. the meta-analysis “Chitosan for overweight and
obesity” for the Cochrane Collaboration.
Christel has represented the Netherlands at International
events and World Championships in Rowing. In 2001 she ran
Rotorua marathon and more recently has been involved in
some off-road running.
